Building a Railroad

Track Cleaning Car

All railroads need maintenance. Electric trains need clean track to run efficiently. I built this track cleaning car from and old wet pad track cleaner that did not work very good. This track cleaning car uses a friction base cleaning system with a soft pad brush to remove oxidation from the rails, pushed by a Legacy controlled locomotive. The fine sandpaper friction pad and soft pad clean light oxidation off the track during operations.  The flashing lights are powered by a 9vt battery under the cab, providing a MOW train look. The car weighs few pounds, which aids in providing enough friction to the friction pad. Springs also force the friction pad down towards the track and the cleaning pad just floats on top of the rails. The perfect combo to clean off the outdoor oxidation on the rails.  Note: Even though the Atlas track is silver nickle, there is still some light oxidation that will occur.
